The Afrifresh Group owns a growing portfolio of high-yielding farms which, by 2011, encompassed nearly 6 900 productive hectares across South Africa. Distinctive farming competencies include productivity enhancements, technical assurance and the skilled management of risk, which is based on the geographic spread of production.

23 hectares have already been planted subsequent to the farm being acquired by the Group in 2011 and further expansion is planned due to the availability of arable land and water rights.
 
Galactic Deals
 
Located North of the Orange River in South Africa's Northern Cape province, a number of dynamic projects are underway at Galactic Deals to bring the farm to optimal production. These include major upgrades to the irrigation system and packing facility, as well as the planting of 75 hectares of table grapes.

Following the removal of most of the old vineyards, a major redevelopment of the farm is underway. This includes a planting program for the introduction of seedless varieties. A state of the art packhouse will be constructed within the next two years.
 
Kusasa
 
Kusasa Farm is situated in De Doorns, in South Africa's Hex River Valley where the climate is ideal for the colour development of red and black table grape varieties.

Superlane
 
The Rooiduin and Sombra Farms make up Superlane 124, which produces table grapes and citrus fruit. Both farms are situated in Augrabies in South Africa's Oranje River region.

Berekisanang Empowerment Farm
 
Located adjacent to Galactic Deals, Berekisanang is Afrifresh's first partnership with the IDC and community shareholders to develop a new, large-scale farming entity. The farm is being developed from scratch on vacant land and will incorporate the latest technologies and agronomy practices.
 
Planned crops: Will be planting 100 hectares table grapes
and 400 hectares citrus

Packaging: Grapes will be packaged in a new pack house on Galactic Deals, while citrus will be packed in a new pack house on Berekisanang.

Copperzone (Goedehoop)
 
Based in Marble Hall in South Africa's Limpopo province, Copperzone was purchased by the Afrifresh Group in 2008. Considerable investment followed and by 2010 the farm's production levels had increased significantly. Infrastructure upgrades and a crop replacement program will contribute to the farm's objective of reaching optimal production by 2014.

Future development of additional citrus orchards is planned due to the availability of arable land and excess water rights. Potential exists for 1 million export cartons in total. Further to the citrus operation, the size of the farm and the fertile land allows additional farming to take place. A large variety of cash crops (including watermelon, butternut, pumpkin, squash, mielies, cabbage, beetroot, tomatoes, maize and carrots) are farmed. A small cattle farming operation is also conducted on the farm.
 
Fruitstar
 
Fruitstar, Afrifresh's principal grapefruit farm, is based in the Nkwalini Valley in the province of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. The business encompasses three farms (Mvubu, Bridgeford and Thabile) and two highly efficient packing facilities.

There has been ongoing development on Fruitstar over the past few years as old and unproductive orchards are replanted with Star Ruby grapefruit. In addition to the citrus operation, sugar cane is also farmed.
 
Gert Kruger
 
Gert Kruger Boerdery is a well established and extremely efficient enterprise. Situated in the high-yield area of South Africa's Loskop Valley (Marble Hall, Limpopo), the farm houses an efficient packing facility fitted with, among others, a modern MAF Roda optical scanner.

An extensive cash crop farming operation is conducted under pivots and sprinklers for the production of maize, wheat, sweet potatoes and vegetables. Lucerne is also farmed.
 
Kleinvlei
 
Kleinvlei is located in the Sundays River Valley in the Eastern Cape province, one of the most productive citrus areas of South Africa. It comprises five productive farms: Imithi and Imithane (Addo), Mfuleni and Sylvania (Dunbrody) and Ruimte (Kirkwood).

Rodash
 
Afrifresh acquired Rodash in 2008 as part of its strategy to increase its exposure in Marble Hall, Limpopo. This area produces the highest yield, and highest quality, citrus fruit in South Africa and Rodash holds significant production potential with recently planted orchards coming into full production.

The 2010 production figures are low as the majority of citrus orchards were planted recently and will start maturing in 2012. In addition to the citrus operation, the size of the farm and the fertile land allows additional farming to take place. This includes tobacco, wheat, corn and soya.
 
Sun Valley
 
Sun Valley Estates is situated in Weenen in South Africa's Kwazulu-Natal province - an area with excellent weather conditions for the production of citrus fruit. As 38% of the farm is not yet fully productive, Sun Valley holds significant capacity for growth. Its highly efficient packaging facility is fitted with, among others, a new generation MAF Roda optical calibrator.

Afrifresh Packers
 
Afrifresh Packers was built on Copperzone Farm as part of a phased investment plan after the farm's acquisition in 2008. A state of the art facility, it is equipped with advanced MAF Roda optical grading technology, processes up to 25 tons of fruit per hour and holds up to 250 pallets in its cold rooms at any one time. It further meets all American and European criteria for food safety and traceability, enabling it to deliver products worldwide. Afrifresh Packers is considered one of the most progressive facilities of its kind in South Africa.
 
Total facilities area: 4500 square meters

Processing capacity: 210 tons of citrus per day

Clients: Copperzone and small farms in the area.
 
Ponders End Traders Pack House
 
Ponders End Traders Pack House in Addo in South Africa's Eastern Cape Province, is only 70 kilometers away from Port Elizabeth. This, together with good access via the N2 highway, ensures that products reach the port quickly and at minimal transport costs.

The facility's modern equipment includes, among others, a new generation MAF Roda optical calibrator. The business adheres to the most stringent South African and European safety standards and has successfully achieved the international certifications required by European supermarkets.
 
Total facilities area: 6 254 square meters which include cold storage for a total of 240 pallets

Processing capacity: 123 tons of lemons, or 175 tons of oranges, per day

Clients: Kleinvlei and small farms in the area.
 
 
Agronomy:
Over the last few years, the Group has successfully recruited and implemented, a highly skilled agronomy team, headed up by an international expert, to effectively support the numerous group farms.  The team visits and liaises with all our farm managers, ensuring that optimal modern and scientific methods are applied from inception and development through to the harvesting of our fruit.
